I’m bringing you a different, more personal post this week! I’ve decided to do a small glance into my desk, and how I keep all my supplies organized for my bullet journal, and other creative endeavours. Join me as we walk through my desk organization!
Before I took my photos for this week, I fought the urge to clean and tidy everything up. While I want to show you what my desk looks like when everything is perfectly in its place, thats just not often a reality for me. I’ve decided to share a look at my desk organization as it looks on the average day! Productivity is not sacrificed for me if there are things laying out, because I still know where everything goes. Part of the fun with allowing myself to be creative is being able to make a bit of a mess along the way.
My Desk Organization – Overview:
This is what my desk looks like on an average day, prior to planning. On my desk you will see my laptop, a storage bin that holds my journals and some common stationery items (like whiteout and a ruler) that I frequently reach for. You will also see a cup of coffee – I always need one of those before I can sit down! I use another mug that I have to hold a couple of frequent pens. It also holds my coloured markers for the current months mood tracker – it’s easier for me to keep them out and accessible, instead of having to hunt around for them every time I go to fill it out.
To the left of the desk, you’ll see my marker storage. I created this following a tutorial from Cristina of mylifeinabullet. It’s super simple just using hot glue and foam board, if you want to recreate it you can find her tutorial here! I also have my printer, and my lamp clipped onto the rack. I really love it because it holds all of my pens, and even fits my Tombows without them sticking to far out!
I also keep a lot of my supplies in my utility cart. I got this one from Costco here in Canada, but I know you can find similar ones at Ikea, Michaels, or Walmart. This cart holds all my crafting paper, some spare journals and notebooks, ball point pens, binder clips, pencils, and my stickers. I love these because they are so easy to move around – if I can’t find something I just wheel it out!
I also have a set of plastic drawers to the left of the cart. These hold excess printer paper, and other hobby supplies (like my cross stitching thread). I also keep spare charging chords and batteries theres, so it’s easy to grab if I need to!
I store my washi tape in bins like these, I got them from Michaels when I was able to use a 50% off coupon – they worked out to under 5$ each! I have 3 bins in total right now, and they are almost all the way full. I currently organize my washi tape by thickness and then by colour, but I’m really itching to try to transfer them all onto the plastic cards that I’m seeing. I just don’t know where to buy them!
My “Spare” Desk….
I also have another desk that I’ve had since I was a kid. I currently keep this one in my room, and it serves mostly as storage at the moment. I am wanting to get it more organized though so that I can sit in my room and work if I feel like it. You’ll see a lap desk on top, which I use when I’m sitting in bed working on my computer and drinking coffee. I also keep my brain map taped to the wall – I like to be able to look at it when I’m getting ready in the morning – it helps to keep me accountable with my goals.
So that’s a quick and dirty look at where I spend a lot of my time, and my overall desk organization! I sit here when I wake up, and I’m typically working at my desk when I get home from my day job. I’ve really made it into such a cozy place and I truly look forward to the time when I can come and sit down here.
