I’m excited to share with you a new way I have been organizing my thoughts, my appointments, and basically my life. I currently plan using lots of different mediums, because that’s just how it works for me! If you want to see all the different ways I plan you can read that post here. However, today I want to share with you how I stay organized using a wall calendar.
How I Stay Organized Using a Wall Calendar
I have only been doing this for about a month, but in that short time the calendar has very quickly become the central command centre in my life. It’s a place where I can put my appointments, my social obligations, when I have to work, blogging related deadlines, and meal planning.
It gives me a step up above my bullet journal, because typically I only have my bullet journal set up for at most a month in advance. If I have an event that comes up 3 months down the road I have somewhere I can put that, without having to worry about forgetting it. When it comes closer to that event I can then put that into my bullet journal or digital planner.
Colour Coding
I OF COURSE had to colour code my calendar – who would I be if I didn’t?! I created 5 categories, although that is flexible in the sense that I may add or take away categories in the future.
The 5 colour coded categories that I am currently using are:
- Business (anything blog or social media related)
- Work (my day job)
- Personal (any personal reminders or events)
- Appointments (doctor, dentist, etc!)
- Money/bills (pay days, bill due dates) – that seriously helps with budgeting!
- Meals (dinner plans) – I don’t include any breakfasts or lunches since I am awful at eating breakfast and typically just drink coffee, and lunch tends to be leftovers from dinner the night before.
Where I Keep The Calendar
I very purposefully put my calendar in a spot where I would see it every single day, and be forced to interact with it. A place where I would be mindful of my obligations and priorities. That place is right near my door. I hung it right beside my coat rack and shoes, so that when I am putting them on I can glance at it and mentally know what my game plan for the day is.
I purchased my wall calendar from Chapters, but you can find them at any stationery or office supply store. There’s a link to one I like on Amazon here.
